DPT Student Resources

As a licensed PTA and current DPT student, I built this page for the exact moments when PT school stops feeling like a syllabus and starts feeling like too many moving pieces at once.

Instead of dumping every post in one place, this hub is meant to help you choose the next right resource based on your season: deciding on DPT school, getting through first semester, preparing for lab practicals, surviving immersion, walking into your first clinical, organizing scholarships, or protecting your energy while you do all of it.

Start Here

If you are overwhelmed, start with the friction point that is costing you the most energy.

What Season Are You In?

Choose the section that feels most like your life right now.

Before You Start

Read this section if you are still deciding, comparing paths, or trying to understand what DPT school will really ask of you.

Something I wish more students had earlier is a realistic picture of the transition itself. These are the pieces I would read first if you are still making sense of the road ahead.

What to read next: once you know you are moving forward, go to First Semester so you can build a workable system early.

First Semester

Start here when the volume of school feels bigger than your current systems.

During DPT school, I learned quickly that the problem is not always motivation. Sometimes the real issue is trying to hold school, meals, money, and recovery together without a repeatable routine.

What to read next: if the next stress point is performance under pressure, move into Lab Practicals.

Lab Practicals

Use this section when you know the material but still do not feel steady heading into a practical.

Lab practical stress is usually not just about content. It is about sequencing, repetition, confidence, and knowing how to practice without spinning out.

What to read next: if your program uses concentrated in-person blocks, go straight to Immersion. If you are preparing for patient-facing responsibility, jump to First Clinical.

Immersion

Come here when your hybrid or condensed in-person weeks need more than pure willpower.

Immersion weeks can feel like school, logistics, performance, and recovery all competing for the same energy. The goal here is to make those stretches more repeatable and less draining.

What to read next: once you are looking ahead to direct patient care, move to First Clinical.

First Clinical

Read this section when the classroom-to-clinic shift starts to feel real.

One thing I noticed working in inpatient rehabilitation is that confidence rarely comes from feeling fully ready. It comes from better preparation, clearer expectations, and knowing what to focus on next.

What to read next: explore the Study with Iris collection for decision-focused study resources and clinical reasoning practice.

Scholarships

Use this section when tuition feels heavy and you need a process, not just another list.

The strongest scholarship resources are the ones that help you organize action. Start with the guide, use the hub for breadth, and then move into essays, search strategy, and tracking.

What to read next: if your path includes the PTA-to-DPT transition specifically, continue with PTA to DPT.

PTA to DPT

This section is for the in-between season when you are carrying real experience and still becoming something new.

The PTA-to-DPT transition is not just academic. It is identity, finances, confidence, and learning how prior experience supports you without assuming it covers everything.

What to read next: pair this section with Wellness if you are trying to protect your energy while building the next version of your career.

Wellness

Read this section when your biggest need is not another study tactic, but a more sustainable life around school.

My long-term goal is not just to get through school. It is to build routines that support healthy aging, meaningful work, travel, and a life I can actually keep living after graduation.

Wellness Library

Wellness

Use the wellness page for broader routines, movement, and healthy lifestyle resources beyond student-only posts.

What to read next: if you want shorter decision-focused study resources, keep an eye on the Clinical Reasoning Study Guides section below.

Clinical Reasoning Study Guides

Study with Iris: clinical reasoning, one decision at a time.

Explore the published Study with Iris collection for visual guides, practice questions, and structured clinical-reasoning support.
